Non-commisioned Officers Sword

This sword is a replica of the NCO Sword which is worn by US Marine officials. NCO of NCO sword stands for noncommissioned officer’s sword. This sword was adopted in 1859 and is patterned after the United States Army’s foot officers’ sword of 1850.

These swords in mainly used during the change of responsibility ceremony, this sword emphasizes the fact that the senior NCO is in charge of taking care of the troop and it reminds the NCO that he/she is responsible for good order among the troops.

With a few minor variations, the sword is modelled after the foot officers’ sword of the United States Army from 1850. NCO swords were initially fitted with thick, wide blades that resembled the normal Army M1850 foot officers’ swords in terms of weight and design.

The blades on the old Marine NCO swords, however, were polished brightly rather than being engraved, in contrast to the Army officers’ blades. Regulations from 1875 authorised the engraved designs that are so recognisable on Marine NCO swords, and they have been a part of them ever since.

The cast-brass hilt of Marine NCO swords has a half-basket guard. The leather-wrapped grip is bound with twisted brass wire. The single-edged, slightly curved blade has a wide central fuller and a short false edge and a black-leather scabbard with two brass mounts, one of which has a stud for attaching a leather belt frog and the other of which has a brass tip with drag.
